Miguel Cabrera's painting titled, From a Spanish man and Indian woman, a mestizo boy.Questions of design

My first concern in design is how to best convey my message to the audiences I hope to reach.

With the casta paintings, language is a key issue.

I chose to use consistent labels in both Spanish and English, for easier searching, and to illustrate the formulaic nature of the genre.

Another concern of mine is how to convey the message of these paintings to those with diminished vision. I think the best route would be to provide long descriptions of each painting, not only describing what you see, but also providing the dimensions of the paintings.

Visual Overload

A tricky part of working with repetitive series of paintings is to spark and maintain viewers interest. There should always be a reason for the selection and placement of a particular image.

I am not sure how much interpretation should be left to viewers, or how much they should discover on their own.
